This 8 inch Lodge cast iron skillet is a solid everyday pan for small jobs like breakfast tacos, with a price that feels reasonable for cast iron. It can be seasoned in the oven and, with regular use, the rough factory texture may smooth out and become more nonstick over time. The skillet is heavy, and the included silicone handle is reported to slip and feel unsafe, so oven mitts may work better. A dependable compact cast iron option if you want to build up the seasoning yourself.

  • The skillet can be seasoned in the oven at 500°F before use, which helps it be ready to cook.

    slickd888

  • The skillet's roughness can smooth out with a year or two of regular use and repeated seasoning.

    seawaddles4287

  • The 8-inch size works well for breakfast tacos as a go-to pan.

    4SKZ8

  • The skillet can be a reasonable buy at $14.39 for an 8-inch cast iron option.

    denaiser

  • The factory burned-in seasoning or non-stick layer reportedly does not last long.

    Milfhouse

  • The skillet can have a very rough texture from casting sand, so checking in-store may be necessary.

    ronder

  • The silicone handle can slip off even when dry and can become oily or moisturized during cooking.

  • Free-shipping at $35+ reportedly failed at times, with shipping still charged after adding multiple skillets.

Lodge is fine, but if you really want to get serious about cast iron skillets, get a vintage Wagner or Griswold. The surface is like glass on the old ones. They are actually running out of the sand for very smooth cast iron skillets.
I have a Griswold my Mom got at a garage sale years ago and it's wonderful.
I have handled a few Lodge before and I didn't care for the feel of it in comparison to the Griswold.

If your American Express rewards are connected with Amazon, use at least $3 of rewards to pay for order and get 10% off. There are different types of AmEx rewards; my rewards with Blue Cash Everyday card worked.

No longer use the non-stick pans these days. Went with this brand to buy USA I have the larger 12". Before using it, I seasoned it in the oven at 500 degrees a few times and it's good to go. Other than the weight the care and maintenance is not bad at all. You'll want to get a silicone handle as well for a few bucks.
Absolutely skip out on the silicone handle. In my experience it's trash and actually a hazard to yourself. It easily slips off even if the handle is completely dry while cooking. To add, while cooking, the handle naturally gets oily or becomes moisturized when cooking. There is literally no texture in the inner lining of lodge's handle. I shelved it and just use oven mitts now.
