This 8 inch Lodge cast iron skillet is a solid everyday pan for small jobs like breakfast tacos, with a price that feels reasonable for cast iron. It can be seasoned in the oven and, with regular use, the rough factory texture may smooth out and become more nonstick over time. The skillet is heavy, and the included silicone handle is reported to slip and feel unsafe, so oven mitts may work better. A dependable compact cast iron option if you want to build up the seasoning yourself.

Kinda makes sense why certain people don't season their food now...

No longer use the non-stick pans these days. Went with this brand to buy USA I have the larger 12". Before using it, I seasoned it in the oven at 500 degrees a few times and it's good to go. Other than the weight the care and maintenance is not bad at all. You'll want to get a silicone handle as well for a few bucks.

Most of my cast is Lodge. It's great and use it everyday; but I wouldn't necessarily say it's high quality. It's acceptable quality for a very reasonable price. And if the owner puts a little elbow grease in they can make it high quality.

Lodge is fine, but if you really want to get serious about cast iron skillets, get a vintage Wagner or Griswold. The surface is like glass on the old ones.

They are actually running out of the sand for very smooth cast iron skillets.

You can also buy this and grind and polish it until it has a smooth finish.

Con is that the burned in non-stick season doesn't last long.

I have a Lodge and some generic one. I must say that the texture on the Lodge is very rough. It's a function of the sand they use for the casting. Best find one in a store and feel how rough it is before you take one home.

it will smooth out with use. a year or two of regular use and seasoning and it could be very smooth and nonstick

I'm not seeing free shipping with $35+ orders on this item.
Edit: Today it's there; wasn't yesterday.

I tried putting 3 of these in my cart, which gets it over $35. But was still being charged shipping.
Not sure if Amazon is updating code for their website or what; I was surprised.
