The problem is the battery…. After 3 months of daily summer usage, the battery is lucky to last 8-9 miles of riding before going dead. It has steadily declined after about month of consistent use…
Key points:
* Frame geometry is small and handlebar/seat height means this only works as a bike for people under maybe 5'8". Taller than that and your knees hit the handlebar.
* It's not a very good bike - if you want an actual ebike get one with gears. The single gearing is enough to limp home if you run out of juice but nothing more.
* It's not a good ebike - pedal assist mode is bad. There's a very rough cadence sensor that kicks in after ~2 revolutions, which makes pedal assist only useful when the e-motor struggles (e.g. up hills). Meanwhile any touch on the throttle overrides the pedal assist.
* Sounds like I'm not recommending this, but good news - it is a good scooter! The throttle is solid and the bike is much more comfortable to ride on without pedaling. I actually took the chain off after realizing this, which makes the bike coast much smoother (extending the range quite a bit). TECHNICALLY this makes the bike not a class 2 and there might be some local rules about sit-scooters vs stand-scooters vs e-bikes, but the bike doesn't go over ~15mph anyway.
* This thing is a tank. It got hit by a car (car at fault) and did more damage to the car than the bike. It folds quickly and easily to go in a trunk. It's got frame mounts for water cages (hahahahaha...no) or a bike lock (yes). Sure, no thousand laser blasters or fridge full of meat, but we aren't talking Starship Velociraptor prices either.
* I like to tinker so can recommend some modifications (other than taking the chain off): the seat suuucks, replace it immediately. The back rack pad can be removed (nobody should be riding on it anyway) and a grocery pannier fitted to the rear triangle to make this a nice errand vehicle. The pad does conceal the ESC from the elements so I fitted some plastic over it before adding a milk crate. The rear doesn't have any shocks so a pneumatic seat post is a nice add.
All in all it's a recommend at this price. I've gotten more than enough value out of it to replace e-bike rentals (my last rental was $5 so it doesn't take many!) in an urban environment.
Community Reviews
This folding 14 inch e bike is best understood as a compact throttle scooter with a bike frame, offering easy folding, decent build quality, and enough sturdiness for trunk storage and short urban trips. The throttle feels solid, it can coast more smoothly with chain changes, and the frame has held up well even after a car hit. The main drawbacks are the small fit for taller riders, rough pedal assist, and a battery that can fade to about 8 to 9 miles after a few months. Returns and refunds also sound cumbersome, so it suits short rides more than long, hassle free ownership.

What's the data say about how often this actually happens?
I can't speak to longevity of the battery because she got it recently, but overall it seems nice. When folded the weight distribution is really odd and carrying it that way becomes a weird hassle. One of the first times I put it in my car like that I pulled a muscle in my back. So be careful carrying it while folded. The center of gravity and the ability for it to swing around while folded creates something that is far more challenging to carry than you would expect from the weight alone.

have you heard of people having the battery die on these after 3 or 6 months?
wondering if I should sell it.
They started to require registration for these in parts of Jersey. All that being said, it would be nice to have one to ride from my job to my car about 4-5 blocks away, but then I would be one of the above people.
