$55 is not a great price, especially when you consider that you should grab a name brand microsd to throw in there which will bring the whole thing up to $75-$85 bucks.
I agree, can't they just make it Wider by 720 this way you can still have 1:1 within a wider screen, and you won't lose anything on top you will still have wide view of other platforms if needed. Not sure up to what platform this can emulate. I guess this is OK for up to PS1 and probably best for N64?
There are lots of these oddball handhelds that aren't really meant to play modern titles, so widescreen would be worthless. The H700 SoC is good up to around N64 and Dreamcast where it can play most, but not all titles comfortably at 1x. PSX and below will play just fine without tinkering. PSP is playable, but not reliably at 1x. Again, if you just want to play 4:3 games, something like the RG 35xxPro or RG40xxH would be a better choice.
If you want a cheap widescreen handheld, the Mangmi Air X is the gold standard as far as under $100 devices go, as it can comfortably play all PSP at 2-3x scaling. It is a poor choice for Gamecube and PS2 however, and you'll need to move up to $150+ range to find handhelds that can do that well. The RP5 is generally a good starting point for PS2 emulation.
When it comes to emulation, everything is a balancing act between overall size, weight, screen size and cost. There is no single handheld that does everything well.
