But the transfer rate for Citi TYP to Amazon is 1 to 0.8, so you are hit with a 20% fee for doing using TYP to make Amazon purchases. Ie, 1000 TYP translates to only $8(not $10) to use at Amazon. You can get 1c per point value or higher using TYP in other ways.

So this 20% discount just ups the value of using TYP back up to 1c/point. I guess if you have a lot of TYP to burn and want to buy things at Amazon, this is an OK deal. But you can get a straight 1c/pt cashback redemption on some Citi cards, and higher than 1c/pt on some gift cards.

The trick is to just use 125 TYP (=$1) and lose a few cents in exchange for the 20% discount (up to $15). Still worth it.

These offers NEVER work for me. And IMHO, using points to buy stuf on Amazon without a special offer is a waste of points as the value is minimized.
