Having a hard time convincing the wife, we already have the large Alexas around the house and she says using this is like going back in time and managing music from your phone. Does she have a point?

well, it doesn't do multiroom natively. you'd want sonos or wiim for that.
Alexa Show 1st generation 5" and 8" both have an aux output that you can plug into one of these speakers -- I'd say that's a pretty great setup because I think Marshall Stanmore and Woburn sound better than Sonos products, and certainly when it comes to music. And I genuinely love these Marshall speakers. They kick ass for rock or electronic music, podcasting, other genres. I only switched to Sonos due to multiroom.
They also have the Heddon now -- to do multiroom without them being dependent on Alexa devices, but I don't think you can use that for the TV. You can't take the feed from a TV ARC and then send it to other devices via a Heston soundbar, even with the Heddon system. But it doesn't inherently mean you have to do everything from your phone, especially if they're connected to Alexa and you have things integrated through that. Functionally, if they're aux-paired to Alexa devices, your use case of them should be exactly the same -- you just have far more powerful and refined sound.
Me personally, I use an 8" Alexa show for when I'm in the shower and stream music through that(and I will likely connect the Aux to a Sonos speaker in the future) but I use Sonos otherwise. I do have Marshall speakers as well, and I prefer them, but almost all of what I do at home comes back to a computer with a TV and a soundbar being fed data via the TV's Arc output. If Marshall could do this, I wouldn't want any other speakers in my home.
