Any experience with this machine? I have a ton of tough ornamental grasses to get rid of every fall and the stalks of grass can be up to a 1/4" thick

This is for dead, dry, brittle, leaves.
You need a wood chipper.

This looks like a PITA. Any reason to prefer this over a corded leaf vac that has the mulcher/bagger built in? Like this one for half the price? https://www.walmart.com/ip/17043024873

I have a black and decker version of a leaf vac. I have a huge oak tree and its leaves constantly clogged the tube and I gave up pretty quickly. Also the bag gets heavy and its awkward to manipulate after a while. I guess this style mulcher doesn't have those issues but its less portable.

I've had this for 10ish years now. Some years I use it, some I don't. It gets clogged if you try feeding too fast or if you have a bunch of twigs mixed in with the leaves. If the leaves are too damp it'll clog too. Still better than hand bagging, and less of a hassle than a hand held leaf vac.

I'd say it cuts the number of bags I use in half. They do get pretty heavy when full though.

Run over them with a mower with a mulch kit on it.

I purchased one of these and it worked great. However, I later realized that using a lawn mower is much faster and more efficient for my needs.

I wonder how this handles pine straw... I'm drowning in southern pine straw and it takes forever to break down.
