I recently got the 8550 the bigger version of this one and am having to return it. Damages all of the photo paper I put through it. Otherwise it creates beautiful photo prints. I've read you can modify the printer to fix this but I shouldnt have to do that on such an expensive product.

Are you feeding through the rear? And have your print setting for thicker paper?

I use the lager 8550 to print photos, birthday cards, sticker sheets that I then laminate and cut out on my Silhouette. If you are just printing documents get a laser, but for color prints I have been very impressed. With the refillable tanks the ink cost is manageable.

Use Epson Print Layout Software to print photos and you can easily change settings and paper types. Watch some YouTube videos on how to properly print and care for these. Keith Cooper is a good resource. Don't let the heads dry out.
