Got a new one for 550 back in May. Not a bad device, but also the price isn't really a steal either.
Not doubting but $550 seams like a crazy good deal. What were the details trying to figure out id $550 was a fluke or something worth waiting to come up again.

It was. Found it on slickdeals. People couldn't do math so a lot of people missed out on the deal.

This was the deal. 99% of people didn't understand it and missed out. Meanwhile, I financed it, got a new phone unlocked for $550 after tax. Just put my main Sim in the physical Sim slot, and have the Google fi new number as the esim. Pay my monthly phone plan minus credits back, comes out to $550/24 months. Easy. Google Fi has good phone deals every once in a while you can use to your advantage. Just got to read the terms carefully because they are strict with em.

It looks like currently there is a promo on for 300$ Discount and 550$ back over 24 months with flex plan, so would that mean you end up paying 20*24=480 over 2 years + taxes?

Definitely not. Msrp is 1100. If you have 300 instant + 550 credit that equals only 850 off of the 1100. That means you'd need to pay the $250, plus tax on the FULL amount of the phone, plus the flex plan which is 20/month plus taxes and local fees. At that price it's not a good deal. For me, it was 300 instant, 800 back in credits, so the entire 1100 msrp phone was "free" and I just had to pay for the flex plan for 24 months plus tax on the device, and get my credits back as the months went on. I genuinly wouldn't even bother with it unless you are confident in your readings of the terms of service, and doing the math on your own. There's a lot of fine print, and Google Fi will not be sympathetic if you break the terms of the agreement. I think I spent like 5 days triple checking my math to ensure I was getting a good deal on the device before I bought it. Actually bought 3, which lowered the cost even more to like 500ish per. But, regardless, deal is not around right now so not worth looking into at all.
