Given it's on Woot I'm going to assume this may be old stock. Altoids DO expire (1-2 years I think) so just keep that in mind if you're in for the mints. And yes I've had stale Altoids and they don't have the same "crunch" as a new one.

I would put expire in quotes, though, they go stale as you said, but it's not like they're going bad in 1-2 years if their stored in a cool semi-dry environment
