They are a good alternative to in-ear earbuds for those who want something different. Compared to most other types of headphones, you're sacrificing some sound quality to gain better hearing of your surroundings.
I mostly use them for working out. That way I can hear others in gym or traffic while jogging. The fact that they wrap around your ear also makes them more secure than tiny in-ear earbuds when moving around.
Even if it means sacrificing some performance or features, I see the sub-$30 price tag as a major benefit. It removes some of the stress related to the earbuds getting lost, stolen, or damaged. I've got one less thing to worry about when working out or commuting.
My Pixel Buds Pro 2 earbuds provide much better sound than these. But for the reasons I mentioned above, the V20i gets used a lot as well.
