This Cricket iPhone 16e bundle is mainly attractive for getting a new 128GB phone with two months of service and a one year unlock path. The strongest appeal is for niche uses like iOS app testing, and the phone can also carry meaningful Apple trade in value. The main drawback is the ongoing service cost, which has been described as expensive compared with cheaper carriers and alternative phone deals. Port in activation can take a few tries, and the deal has reportedly worsened from earlier pricing.

Can you trade down to the cheapest plan after the initial 2 months?
usually yes. i did this in the past with a similar deal on cricket for my sons line nearly a year ago (this was just before the unlock went from 6months to a year)

I had the same question and according to Cricket chat, no, you may not. It makes no sense to me and your real-life experience may differ. May wait for 17e promos to start anyways since 17e has base 256gb storage.

$170 (50 phone + 60 fist month service + 60 credit to account)
$5 tax (varies by your shipping address)
$175 initial cost due.

$545 for remaining 11 months service ($55/mo with the -5 auto pay discount then minus the 60 credit).

$720 total for a year of service + this iphone 16e 128gb.

buying an iphone16e 128gb unlocked new from bestbuy is $520, after taxes about $570, so it's like you're getting a year of this cell phone service for $150. can you get a year similar service for $150 elsewhere is the question that determines if this carrier's deal is right for you since the device is locked for a year with cricket.
one can drop down to their $30 plan after letting the $60 plan expire. I did it with their Moto Edge 2026. Or buy their 3 months at $45. total.

Boost mobile has exact same deal online with free delivery and setup whatever that means. But total for ported line and 2 months of unlimited plan was 174 including tax. They also have an in store option where you can trade in a phone and get the 16e for 0 dollars with the same two months paid ahead. Although I do believe they charge an activation fee in stores.

I applied my moto gplay 2023 i had laying around for trade in online and it applied a 20 dollar credit that would've been applied to my boost mobile account after I mailed it in and it checks out, but I don't know if i will have the phone longer than a month or two, so I didn't end up doing the trade in. The big kicker for me was there was a capital one shopping coupon for $112 off boost mobile so my total for the iphone 16e with 2 months of unlimited comes out to be $174-$112= $62 dollars.... then when you consider apple is still accepting the 16e for trade in for $270 towards a phone or apple gift card, its really hard to beat getting to use a 16e for two months and then making over $200 towards a new iphone.
boost mobile will required 3rd month payment to avoid full msrp price charge back. it is in term and conditions

this is literally the dumbest math ever. do you work for a carrier lol
it's simple math based on the time it takes for the device to unlock after purchase

"can you get a year similar service for $150 elsewhere is the question"

if i build in the full retail price of the phone? the answer would be... literally everywhere

how bout this math instead. buy two for ~$300 (multi line discount) then go trade them in at apple for a faster unlocked 17e with twice the storage for $150, then buy any of the numerous $200/year plans for your nrw unlocked phone. total cost $650 for a better phone, factory unlocked, with higher resale value. was a much better deal like 6 weeks ago when the trade in was $310 each and the 17e was $100 cheaper, but still better than your math above
looks like the math worked since you found a better deal. the math was to show quickly to others the total cost of doing the cricket deal and being locked in for a year. from there you can figure out better deals as needed

Lyca shows a a/c and pin in account online. Does that work for port out? I tried with boost and order got canceled and so wondering if that was issue or something else

Not gonna lie it took me a few attempts to get the port to go through. I did use the a/c and pin that's on the Lyca app. The first couple attempts were canceled by Cricket and i got an email saying they couldn't verify account.

we just went through portnumbersforsale.com for a Boost mobile (i believe they sit on ATT) number for $13. seems to be the going rate. initial part with cricket worked, will let you know how it goes.
