Using them to charge something is fine. It's using them for data transfer that's the problem. USB 2.0 is only 480 Mbit/s vs 5 Gbit/s for USB 3.2, and that's not even talking about the latest USB 4.0 protocol; that's 80 Gbits/s. It's the difference between a file transfer taking 10 minutes vs taking 1 minute on USB 3.2 or 1 hour vs. 6 minutes, so it's substantially slower.

I agree. We are already at USB 4.0. USB 2.0 is basically ancient technology already. We are talking 480 Mbit/s VS 80 Gbits/s for the latest protocol. That makes the latest protocol over 8,000% faster than 2.0.

Yes, it's more than enough because during carplay, the data is being read in real time as the music is being played so it doesn't need to be fast. If you're trying to transfer data on the other hand, it'll take about 10 times longer to transfer the equal amount of data vs USB 3.1. But back to playing music, a three-minute song even at a high quality of 320 kbps is only around 7 to 10 megabytes in size so it only needs be fast enough to transfer 7 to 10 mb over the course of the entire length of the song which is probably a few minutes. I hope that makes sense.
