Our community has rated this post as helpful. If you agree, why not thank

I've bought this twice. This is the standard price on prime day, but it's a substantial reduction from the normal price.

FYI: I would estimate the cups are only 2/3 cup total. This is Calrose rice (Japanese/Korean short grain), and it's ready in under 1:30m.

The only problem that I have noticed is that, for both the orders, the product had a best buy date just 6m out (a common prob on Amazon). I have in fact made these past their bbd and they were just fine but ... the more you know

Just buy a bag of japonica rice, rinse it well, put 1/2 cup of rice in a bowl, 3/4 cup of water, put a plate over the bowl to seal it, microwave at 1/2 power for 20 minutes.

Don't worry about expiration on rice. Keep in a cool dry location, sealed from rodents and it will last forever.

Even if one is very careful and watches it the entire time, imo it's not a good idea to ever run any microwave for more than 5 minutes or so. It just seems to be asking for trouble, not to mention asking for a big electric bill.

Quick search results in:

"Yes, this is safe from a food-safety standpoint, though it will likely result in a messy boil-over and poorly cooked rice."

Normal Japanese short grain white rice IS sticky rice. These are essentially the same product with different branding. Koreans and Japanese will tell you that they are different because their rice is superior or better quality but that is beside the point. Both these companies probably use American Calrose rice because it is substantially cheaper than Korean and Japanese rice.
