  • Desperate fighting continues simultaneously worldwide—Adolin in Azir, Sigzil and Venli at the Shattered Plains, and Jasnah in Thaylenah. The former assassin, Szeth, must cleanse his homeland of Shinovar from the dark influence of the Unmade. He is accompanied by Kaladin, who faces a new battle helping Szeth fight his own demons . . . and who must do the same for the insane Herald of the Almighty, Ishar.

At 487,000+ words, that is $0.000006 per word, pretty good deal!

Also, great storyline Big Grin

Some people liked this book. Personally, I felt it was disappointing. But if you've read the others, you kinda have to finish the arc.

Love Sanderson. I read the first 3, but just can't get into the 4th for some reason. I bought this to complete it. It's $1 with digital credits. Mistborn is just easier on the palate.

I agree. Mistborn series is a much easier read. Less things to keep track of and doesn't jump around as much. I never finished oathbringer. Maybe it's time to start again now that the first arc is complete.

This book was disappointing ("I'm his therapist"... really?)

Like the poster said above, you have to read this to finish the 1st arc, but several plot threads are left unresolved in preparation for the next series.

4 was a slog. Felt like a massive departure from the other books. 5 is less of a slog but you kind of have to push through 4 for any of it to make sense.

4 and 5 were both slogs. I'm really annoyed that 5 went through so much backstory that Sanderson could have just played through them in Books 1, 2, 3 as it happened. The delayed reveals are dramatic but is really difficult to keep track of in such a massive anthology.

Our community has rated this post as helpful. If you agree, why not thank

I hate to say it but totally lost interest in the entire Cosmere after this book. Could barely finish it and have no interest at this point to continue. Just seemed to got off the rails with the entire message or principles of the story. Comparable to new trilogy Star Wars where the message of the story changed making Luke a coward and Han was a deadbeat loser husband, unexplanable changes to the lore and story arc, etc. Just disappointing. Absolutely loved 1-2 and really enjoyed just about everyting else in the Cosmere. Mistborn was incredible.

For the last 5 years i've been telling everyone to read his stories, but cannot recommend now and have no interest of going back. In between books 4 and 5 of WoK, I read all First Law, all Red Rising, all Witcher and Sun Eater books, and realized how bad Sanderson has become. Sad really. Used to be the best. Anyway hope this long post helps before spending 200+ hours in the cosmere just to be completely disappointed.

Agreed. I thought it was just me, but I read a few chapters of book 5 and just felt like reading something else. I'll read a few pages every now and then, but it hasn't been like the first three where I was losing sleep because I couldn't put the book down.
