I was just making a suggestion to my brother last Wed a/b buying these headphones instead of the HD600s since the price was more than what he was willing to bear and the HD598 SEs were already $100 last week and I've purchased them twice before for less than $95 in the past if that means anything.

Unless you're in audiophile territory (at which point, you'd already know about the HD600), you'd need to dump more money into a decent DAC/AMP to make the HD600s really shine. The HD599 SE is 50 ohms, so you don't need a ton of power to drive them. They may not get as loud without it, but they'll still sound great.
Personally, I own both the HD559 and the HD599 SE. The only reason I prefer the 559 is the headband is fabric whereas the 599 is vinyl. They're great gaming headphones, especially when couple with a 2.5mm to 3.5mm adapter (I use this one from Kokkia[amazon.com]) with my V-Moda Boom Pro.
In any case, you're a good brother. Repped!
