Not the same model. The one you're referring to has 256 GB of storage. It also has slower read/write speeds.

The Mac mini has a very fast usb-c connection. So it should be easy to upgrade the storage

Real talk: do we think prices will ever come down and be more reasonable or is this new normal?

I still think that prices will come down at some point. The when, and the how much, is TBD. I don't expect it to be any time in the near term. So I'd say, for the time being, until there's something to indicate movement otherwise, all we can do is consider it the normal for the next "while".

Memory supplies will be constrained into 2028, and company executives are predicting prices to continue to rise in 2027.

The memory maker cartel continually endures cycles where the supply/demand balance works for, and often against it.

You can be they're taking full advantage of this situation when they can.

Once the AI bubble bursts (good times for the AI bros now, but that industry will eventually have to find an economically sustainable model -- how much are you willing to pay to use AI, either upfront or with your personal data?) this should ease, but I wouldn't not bet on prices falling to previous levels.

With tech, it has always been to buy the best you can afford, at any one moment, regardless of the current macro circumstances.

Businesses are seeing enough gain to pay the equivalent of a few senior level engineers in AI expense. Depending on how mid-terms go, I suspect the government will heavily subsidize AI and try to keep in domestic. The reality is China or someone will find a way to make it cheaper and the billions being poured into data center construction will fall flat and that will be the main burst. Maybe with the memory part of it, second hand AI hardware will spill out to the consumer market as they upgrade in a year or so. But AI will become sentient and make all of that irrelevant before we need to worry about the bubble bursting (whatever that really means).

Will they ever come down? Probably.
Will that happen in a reasonable amount of time? Probably not.

Remember that storage and RAM manufacturers don't want to be left holding the bag and they also see what we are in as a bubble, thus they aren't expanding production lines in any meaningful full way.

The other problem is that even if everything goes pop, all of the memory and devices made for AI aren't usable for us mere mortals. Thus, it will mostly be e-waste.

Windows 11 is atrocious unless you use LTSC which is not really available to the public.

It's a disaster for privacy and security.

Mac has its own set of annoyances but honestly they are much more durable and likely to not have software glitches
