Love mine, just wish it got more use. The one thing it does not do as well as I had hoped is make ice cream. The cooling chamber just doesn't get cold enough.

Find island oasis smoothie mixes online, those are the ones they use on cruise ships. They make an amazing frozen beverage!

Want this but am worried about refurb items for something that handles liquids and sugars. Also would want to know if it's better to wait for the two-tub version to go on sale.

I have it and paid 239 at Costco for it when it came out. It's pretty nice and does a lot. It's easy to clean and a great gadget if you have guests over regularly. I'm tempted to buy one for my brother at this price.

Anyone know how many versions of the machine Ninja makes? I did some very brief research and the cooling mechanism for the newer and bigger machines is better and faster?

Well it's a slushy maker, not an ice cream maker. If you want ice cream you need to get the Ninja Creami instead, as that's made for making ice creams.

The creami makes "frozen desserts" similar to ice(d) cream, but it's texturally different and not formed the same way as in an actual ice cream maker.
