These guys were like prophets back in 1993- foretelling a future that humans just kept right on walking into.

Sadly, both the book and Epstein buddy are true at the same time.

Agreed, but good luck getting people to hold these two ideas at once though.

The Epstein files cement him as someone who failed to live up to his own rules/expectations that he puts forth in his writings. Forever tarnished

"[A] compelling indictment of the news media's role in covering up errors and deceptions in American foreign policy."—The New York Times Book Review

Great but Chomsky applies a different standard to domestic policy. During Covid Chomsky said the unvaccinated should self isolate themselves but then added "if it really reaches the point where they are severely endangering people, then of course you have to do something about it". So trust the same government and media that decided World War II era Japanese Americans were or could be severely endangering people and that "did something about it" by forcing them into internment camps. Of course such reactions can't really be limited to domestic policy - what if citizens decide to speak out against the Iran war and the media and government say they are "endangering" national security? Chomsky surely knows about Eugen Debs being imprisoned for speaking out against World War 1 and the draft.

I'm not saying don't buy this book (I largely agree with his view on foreign policy), just know that Chomsky has some double standards.

The interviews reporters do "on background" and off the record lay down a lot of groundwork for shaping future opinions about how the powerful with vested interests want the world to work.
