Any specific model or expected deal price range? I'm new to this and buying as a gift.

I own this, and have yet to get a decent shot out of it. I don't have a scale, which I've come to understand is critical to getting the machines dialed in.

If you make mostly milk drinks- latte, cappuccino etc, this machine is totally adequate. Easy to operate as well.

You can get the breville in a HomeGoods/Marshall's / TJ Maxx at this price almost anytime. Is very common.

Spend the extra $150 - it's worth it! https://a.co/d/08bjrHmW

I own this machine. A scale is critical. Don't fill up the hopper. Weigh the amount of beans you will need, add them to the hooper, then grind them all. I find that 18 grams in 36 grams out makes a perfect shot using the larger basket.

Also, if you hold down the main button for a few seconds while pulling a shot, one of the lights will start to blink (or maybe two lights blink, I can't recall at the moment) which will let you know you are setting up the timer. Press the button again to stop the shot once you hit about 30 grams output (it'll still run for a few more seconds which will add to a full 36 grams). Once you do that, the timer will always run for that amount of time the next time if you just tap the button as opposed to holding it down. You can always change it if needed

That timer trick works the same when you use the hot water function as well. That's how I make americanos. I pull a shot with the espresso function, then use the hot water function. Not sure if it would use both the timers if I just used the americano function. I never tried it.

Also, I find that a grind size of 2 is best for most dark "espresso" roasts.
