I've owned a 34-inch LG monitor for about three years and absolutely love it, but there's a major caveat if you're looking to buy one today. Outlets like Gamers Nexus and several other tech channels have reported on LG bundling intrusive software and ads into their display firmware. Keep that in mind before dropping $800—you might end up with ads baked right into your monitor

The monitor instructed windows update to download driver software, and that driver included recurring pop up notifications for McAfee. Terrible look for LG

I read it somewhere from reddit that the spyware/ads are only applied to the smart monitor (at least as of today). Regular monitor that will just plug and play is not affected so far.
I got the 39" of this one specifically on the last slickdeal. it is fantastic. All I suggest you do is never connect this to your network under any circumstance. Additionally, you'll need to set certain settings in windows sleep function (like the PCI Express lane) and registry so that this monitor turns on when your pc turns on. There are settings in the monitor you have to turn on in order for it to be on standby and receive that power on signal. Otherwise you will have to use the remote for this monitor consistently. The display is incredibly good for gaming, at or above par for day to day text use. There are no intrusive ads to speak of but know ; this is a TV, so everything you do on this "tv" is sent to LG. I use it as a monitor, no network connectivity, no wifi connectivity. Its fine as long as you understand what you are getting into.

This is not true in the least man. Just dont connect it to wifi or network.

you can avoid this by not installing the driver however, or use a Mac.
