This Barrington combo is best understood as a budget starter pool table with a dartboard and cue storage, aimed more at casual family play than serious league use. The low price and free shipping stand out, and the table has worked well for kids, teens, and basement hangouts. Several comments also note easy assembly and, in some cases, a level setup right out of the box. The main cautions are that the playing surface is MDF, not slate, the table is smaller than regulation, and delivery damage or moving it upstairs can be a hassle.
Families with young kids who want a starter table, because it handles casual play without worrying much about scratches or scuffs.
No. It is smaller than a regulation 7-, 8-, or 9-foot table and is described as a kids or starter version. It can feel cramped compared with bar or pool-hall tables, especially if you play often.
Damage on delivery is a recurring concern, including reports of major damage that prevented assembly and at least one order where both units arrived badly damaged. Some units did arrive undamaged, so condition on arrival appears inconsistent.
It can be difficult to move because the slate version is very heavy, and even this combo is described as needing 2-3 people or being brought up piece by piece. Buyers also mention it may slide on hardwood or tile unless you add rubber pads under the legs.
Yes, it works well as a starter table for kids and casual basement use, with less worry about scratches and scuffs. It is not a good fit for serious players who want a full-size, true billiards feel.
The playing surface is MDF, not slate. It is lighter and cheaper than slate, but it can be more prone to warping in damp areas and to indentation pits from rough use.

Mdf not slate ,the Walmart ad isn't clear about the playing surface
Walmart ad is also not clear about the table is not made of hard wood, the que is not made of maple, and the balls are not made of pure phenolic resin.
But I see the $399 price with free shipping and use my head.
yes, for most people. MDF might be ok for some young kids to play. Used slate tables are fairly cheap and you can some times find them free on the FB marketplace. The only thing to consider is if they need new felt. It can be pricey depending how serious of a pool player you are and what you want. My table was about 700 bucks to get it re-felted with Simonis 860. There are cheaper options if you are a casual player.
I don't think I could get this up to my 2nd floor apt, plus my wife would kill me if I put it in the middle of our dining room! Eh, a guy can dream, right? I don't even care that it's kinda' cheap quality, that a pretty low price.
