This RX 9070 XT Gaming OC is a fast card, but the open box angle makes it feel risky because this Gigabyte model has repeated heat complaints tied to thermal paste and cooler design. The card can run fine, and repasting or undervolting may help, but fixes may not deliver much temperature improvement and can add extra cost. Warranty coverage is also uncertain on open box purchases, so checking the receipt fine print and stress testing it during the return window matters. It is a strong performer, but the open box savings come with real uncertainty.
Some owners report no heat issues with this specific RX 9070 XT Gaming OC version.
The card can be validated quickly by running Furmark for about 30 minutes to surface potential issues early.
The heatsink design may support repasting if temperatures become a concern later.
A higher-end CPU pairing may help avoid CPU bottlenecking when using this GPU for gaming workloads.
Open-box purchases may not receive OEM warranty coverage, which can lead to paying for repairs or a replacement later.
Bad thermal paste application can cause heat problems, making an open-box unit feel risky.
Repasting may not deliver noticeable temperature gains, and it may require buying the same thermal putty used by Gigabyte.
Open-box condition can include mislabeling or swapped stickers, which can result in receiving the wrong Radeon model.

I purchased an Open Box - Excellent online and received a 9070 instead of the XT. Someone swapped the sticker and it was noticeable. I also tested it and confirmed it was only a 9070.
I had a video recording of the full unboxing so I showed it to a manager at a local Bestbuy. Manager said "Damn what a time...." and provided a brand new one.
