This open box Gigabyte RX 9070 XT is a fast 4K gaming card, but the big draw is tempered by concerns about its cooling and warranty coverage. The card has a history of running hot from thermal paste or pad issues, and some fixes only bring small temperature gains. Best Buy's return window gives some short term protection, and the card can be checked quickly with a stress test, but open box warranty handling may depend on the receipt details. It is a strong performer if the unit is healthy and the paperwork is clear.

Should be much lower for the hassle you'll have to deal with, including scam returns, defective thermal paste, and open box warranty issues.

There is one in good condition near me - worth the gamble? Currently running a 6800 on a 5700X3D with 32GB of DDR4, but would move that down to another system running a 3700X with 16GB of DDR4.
You may have already confirmed, but double check if running this alongside the 5700x3D is viable. May be CPU bottlenecked pretty quickly. I know the x3D processors are solid, but I suspect 7800x3D and up would be the target baseline.

I purchased this open box at Best Buy last year and it has been great. No regrets at all.

I purchased this card a year ago and have had no thermal issues. I would be worried about buying open box from BestBuy though...

I purchased an Open Box - Excellent online and received a 9070 instead of the XT. Someone swapped the sticker and it was noticeable. I also tested it and confirmed it was only a 9070.

I had a video recording of the full unboxing so I showed it to a manager at a local Bestbuy. Manager said "Damn what a time...." and provided a brand new one.

Glad I purchased my ASRock Steel Legend 9070 XT over a year ago in order to spare myself of the nonsense in this current market.

You mean the "new" msrp's?
You will likely have deja vu many times over next few years

Would the return window be enough time to find out? (didn't know that)

BestBuy is really good with the return policy. I think they have like a fairly long return window for members, too. It didn't cost that much and also members get perks like early sale items every month and stuff. I didn't sign up because I don't shop at BestBuy that much. This seems to be a good chance to get a 9070xt below $700 with everything else going up like crazy. (edited out the wrong info about return window)

lol, an x3d processor will not bottleneck this. Even an AM4 one.

If the thermal paste is the problem, could you buy and reapply?
Sometimes its the other components getting hot and not the GPU. So applying new thermal pads might be needed as well. I have seen a few graphics cards with wrongly sized thermal pads.

I always replace the thermal pads with thermal puddy. It works way better and runs a lot cooler with puddy such as the UTP-X Ultra Thermal Putty and PTM7950 for the GPU die.
