The AstroAI S8 is a compact jump starter that has repeatedly handled everyday dead batteries, from V6 Toyotas and a Silverado to box trucks with up to 6.0 liter V8s. It is light and easy to keep in the car, and it can even revive batteries that a regular charger will not detect. The boost button sometimes helps with stubborn starts, but there are also failures on a Mercedes Sprinter and a Prius. A practical budget pick if you want a small emergency starter with real-world range.
Common Questions (3)
It has been used successfully on 6.0L V8 box trucks, a Silverado, and a 16-year-old Toyota V6, with one report of three jumps using about 60% of the pack. It may struggle on some diesel or hybrid vehicles, including a Mercedes Sprinter and a Toyota Prius, even with boost mode.
If the starter turns off too quickly or the battery is too weak to detect, the boost button on the cable plug can be needed to force a start. Clean and tighten the battery terminals first, and if the battery is completely dead, the jump starter can sometimes revive it when a regular charger will not see the battery.
It has been reported working well after about 8 months and still jumping a BMW 5X with no problem. One unit also failed initially but was replaced by the seller, so long-term reliability can vary by unit.

The first time was when my Mercedes Sprinter had a dead battery. Even with the boost button activated, it wasn't powerful enough to jumpstart it. I figured it was a diesel engine, so I could understand that.
However, just last week, my friend's Toyota Prius had a dead battery, and I tried using it again. Even with the boost button, it couldn't jump start the Prius either.
At this point, I'm questioning how reliable this jump starter really is, especially when you need it most.
