Get an insulated glass or mug and call it a day.

I bought one of these last year and liked it enough to buy two more. There's nothing really amazing about it. But it seems to just do the things it's supposed to do without unnecessary friction.
  • The timer adjusts quickly. It's options are well balanced: 0:30, 1:00, 1:30, 2:00, and then 3:00, 4:00, ... , 9:00.
  • When you power it on, it returns to your last used timer option.
  • The heat setting is a manual dial. This means it is not only quick to adjust, but the setting stays the same until you change it.
  • The temperature gets low enough. I've tried one or two other warmers that kept my coffee hotter than I'd like. Even on the lowest setting.
Like someone else mentioned, an insulated cup is probably a more logical option. Especially one with a lid. But this lets me use normal ceramic mugs. And it's more forgiving for the times when I forget about my coffee. Like when I finish a meeting and remember cup I made an hour earlier.

I've always wanted a product like this but my main concern is finding a mug without a raised lip/rib to use with it. If the mug doesn't sit flat on the surface, how will this warmer work? Happy to be proven wrong.

It seems to work fine. I've just used it on ceramic mugs, and most of them are like you're describing. A circle on the outside where the mug makes contact with the surface, and a concave area inside of it that sits higher.

I assume the heat would transfer more efficiently with a flat bottom. But as long as the mug is sitting on the warmer, the air in the gap should warm up in addition to the ceramic rim. Once the air is warm, it should still transfer to the cup.

I could see some losses due to air leaking out past the rim since I doubt it is a perfect seal. And every time you pick up your mug, the pocket of warm air would escape. So it would have to begin warming the new pocket of air when the mug is set back down.

I'm just brainstorming. All of the above is logical, but not necessarily true. The part that is true is that my mugs do stay warm. And I keep the warmer set in the lower their temperature range. I think it should be able to get a lot hotter than I am setting it for.

EDIT: I have a warmer on my desk at work. And I use it with a Google Chrome dinosaur mug that has a concave bottom. (https://shop.merch.google/product...gdwb211499)
