That's the Lighthouse model. These at least have a frame.

Is Maui Jim related to Palm Beach Pete?

Maui Jim explicitly lists Ashford as unauthorized. I bought an original pair from Sunglasses hut years ago and they lasted for a long time, didn't scratch easily. I bought a pair from Jomashop and the lenses were not as clear and they scratched easily. I learned the hard way that this is a product worth paying more for at authorized retailers.

lol.. I loved the Lighthouse for their fit and weight but broke a few bridges and couldn't stand to go back. Most recently have worn the Ho'Okipa and have yet to break one.

Assford sells one of the most good quality second copies of the original product. Not saying that Maui Jims are great quality to being with Big Grin

Maui Jim is the best brand IMO. They are outside the Luxottica deathgrip and stand by their products years after purchase. I would not purchase from an unauthorized source for this reason.

I'm an avid sunglasses collector and Maui Jim is among the best if not THE best in lens optical quality and customer service. I'm not sure if you even know what you're talking about.

I had 2 pairs of heavily abused Maui Jim pairs that are from 2008 (yes, 18 years old) that I called them about and they gave me a brand new pair for only a small service fee ($12 per pair) and the new ones have full warranty. This is a pair that I abused and never left in the case, stepped on and broke, and they still did this 18 years later. No other brand is doing that for you.

Do people not understand the difference between grey market and fake? Yes, Ashford and Jomashop are not authorized retailers, just like Marshalls and TJMaxx are listed by Maui Jim as unauthorized, but the merchandise they sell are authentic. They're just overstock from authorized channels or from international markets with lower MSRP; hence grey market. Buying and selling grey market is essentially Marshall's/TJMaxx's business model, do people really think these brick and mortar billion dollar businesses are allowed to exist if they sell fakes? Ashford and Jomashop are no different from Marshall's and TJMaxx; Maui Jim even lumped them in the same category. I've purchased from all of them as well as my local authorized retailers like Bass Pro Shops, and I've seen no difference in packaging and product quality. The only difference is no warranty from manufacturer like all grey market products. But I'm absolutely ok with no 2-year manufacturer warranty. I can get two pairs for the price of one, and if two pairs can't last me 2 years, then that's on me.
