I know. We've got our phones that can do all this. Why do we want a dedicated player?
One reason people go for devices like this one is for the experience of listening to music with no interruptions or distractions. No phone calls, no notifications, just a little break away from the world to enjoy some of your favorite tunes.
Another reason is battery anxiety. It's a real thing from some people. The ability to listen to music without worrying about running your phone battery down can bring peace of mind and absence of worry.
The third reason isn't really a factor at this price point, but higher end digital audio players have much better quality DACs and other components than are found in phones and the listening experience can be much better with the right source material.
Fosi is a respected Chinese audio brand and isn't fly by night. You could do a lot worse than this one if you're looking for something inexpensive.
I like these DAP's because I pop the sd card out, reload and unload music via Explorer, and move on. Phone stays in the pocket

The Fosi Audio DAP Neo is a compact dedicated music player built for distraction free listening, long trips, work, yard work, and other times when leaving the phone behind makes sense. It offers tactile buttons, wired audio, Bluetooth, and support for formats like M4A and Apple Lossless, with the CS43198 DAC noted as compatible with ALAC. The main practical appeal is avoiding phone battery drain, notifications, and storage hassles, especially when loading music onto an SD card. The key caveat is that the player has no built in memory, so storage depends entirely on the microSD card included or already owned.
The Neo can reduce phone notification and call interruptions by keeping music playback on a dedicated device at work.
The Neo supports M4A files, which can help when your library uses Apple's digital audio container format.
The CS43198 DAC in the Neo can decode Apple Lossless ALAC in M4A files, which supports ALAC playback needs.
The Neo can be convenient for travel and offline listening because it works with microSD cards and can be carried on long plane rides.
The Neo relies on microSD storage rather than built-in memory, so the included card quality can matter for overall usability.
The Neo's Bluetooth experience may be limited because it uses the lowest possible Bluetooth codec without LDAC support.
The Neo's microSD approach can be risky if no-name cards are used, since low-quality cards may fail or underperform.
The included storage value may be weak because the microSD cards provided can be low-end, making larger trusted cards a better plan.

i used to have tens of thousands of songs but between ripping everything, pirating, collecting album art, etc. it is just a waste of time and money
Not to mention when you get a new phone you have to set them all up again.
But when I try to teach people how to do it themselves, even when they ask me to teach them, they quickly tune me out saying that's too much work.
These DAPs aren't practical for everyone, but there's a certain niche of people who these suit perfectly.

It doesn't make sense to you and that's fine. Not every item in the world makes sense for every person in the world. 🤷

Within its price range, the Fosi Neo is the only DAP that offers the "Click Wheel," the touch-sensitive control used on the iPod. The only digital audio player with a similar concept is the Shanling Q2, which costs US$259. However, the Q2's "Click Wheel" functions solely as a volume control, whereas the Neo's can be used to navigate menus.
