This is a deal and a good price. I researched the heck out of it when I thought my Akorn grill was finished a couple months back. Fortunately I had a friend with a new Akorn base -no charge. So I never purchased it.
One question I never got to answer was how easy or difficult it would be to grill on it. (I would want the coals to be 12-15 inches away from the grate (like it is on my Akorn).

I can't speak to this model but I have the previous generation and you can grill on it. Instead of putting the charcoal basket at the bottom of the barrel, you flip the heat diffuser and put it in upside down. Then you place the charcoal basket in and then grate on. That'll place the heat source closer to the cooking surface.

Plus, you can add a fan and a controller to help get that set it and forget it level of control
