The prices have really gone up since 2024. I remember paying for a brand new Asus TUF A16 with a 7700s less than $700.
Asus machines are nice, but line developed a trackpad issue after 8 or 9 months which made it unusable because it would not register the inputs correctly. Not a big deal for me, since I prefer to use a mouse anyway.

Interesting machine.

Integrated graphics that approaches 4060 performance levels but can use a significant amount of the shared 32GB of system RAM.

It's still a long ways behind Apple silicon for local llm performance, and even then you'd want more RAM.

Hard to love it at this price point. For gaming I'd much rather have a discrete GPU like a 5060 or 5070 at a lower cost.

The screen and chassis are solid, but not spectacular in line with the Asus Tuff series, so you're really paying a premium price for a high power CPU and iGPU that almost matches the gaming performance of a good CPU and a good discrete GPU.

Not the best gaming laptop - but might be a good productivity buy. Sure there are some cheaper options, but the AMD 392 is a very strong CPU (out performing the top of the line intel X9 386H that I have in my HP laptop). The 3.26lb weight is also very reasonable and the build quality is good. I'm having issues with my HP Omnibook and was looking for something under $2k - this seems to fit the bill. For me, it's a travel laptop - and the only negative is probably going to be the big charging brick this requires.

ASUS made a pretty decent product here, and the TUF is definitely a capable laptop. That said, I had some issues with my 18" TUF that I personally couldn't look past.

I went through 3 different 18" TUFs, returning each one. They all worked well otherwise, but every single one had noticeable backlight edge bleed. I can't say whether the same issue would occur on the smaller 14" screen, but it's something I'd keep in mind.

The other thing that bothered me was the fan. The blower can get VERY loud under load, not an ideal for use on a plane (this I could look past, but after getting the strix & I saw how much quiter things could be, it was pretty significant)

After countless hours and I mean countless, dealing with customer service, including 22+ hours of phone calls across the returns, "repairs" that never actually happened, and everything else, ASUS eventually upgraded me to the ROG Strix series.

The 18" TUF screens seemed to have a pretty consistent issue with backlight edge bleed. By comparison, the 18" ROG Strix is noticeably quieter, and the backlight bleed on mine was almost unnoticeable, and has also diminished even further over time.

So, overall, the TUF is a capable laptop, but based on my experience with three different brand new in box 18" models, I'd personally be cautious about the display and just understand that the fan noise is fairly loud compared to a rog strix.. Hopefully the 14" has better quality control in that regard.

I have this laptop and it will charge fine off of of my 100W Gan brick that I already carry with me for my phone and other gadgets. When put in high-performance mode for gaming, it will give it enough juice to game for several hours before you'd be worried about battery with the 100w as well. So I don't even bother bringing the included charging brick (which really isn't that big anyways).

there must be some conspiracy or brainwashing campaign trying to convience us that these prices are suddenly acceptable and these "deals" are acceptable. I will never buy another computer if these are acceptable prices. I'd rather kick rocks in my backyard, and so I will.

Hard to say.. do you think there is a conspiracy to convince us that the higher prices that the tariffs and war caused are acceptable as well? And the fact that the death of capitalism due to lobbyists (aka legal bribery) is acceptable.. and the monopolies that exist were just inevitable and that we weren't supposed to be protected from all of this?
Then yeah, I suppose it's all a conspiracy.. what is really scary is how much money and wealth has been pumped into a 👁over just the last year...

Agenda 2030. You will own nothing and be happy. Hard to call everything that's happening a conspiracy

Outside of North America ASUS offers a 64GB variant of this same laptop that is a much better value.
