Too answer mamy questions I just bought this an installed it. (Flush mount is there isnt a rod) however it still hangs down 7 or so inches like a previous comment said. Second question i seen was a extention pole. Im sure u could fab something simple to drop the fan. You would need a ball mount thou so it can self center. This fan is quiet it uses very little power and puts out a good amount of air. You will op for a remote over rewiring the switch for the light. But its not big deal. I think its a amazing buy for 44 dollars

Also important to me. Don't understand all these new fans that don't use normal bulbs that one change replace at burnout. Am I missing something?

It's a space thing. Using LED strips allows the whole thing to hand down from the ceiling less.

For what it's worth... I had a similar fan and it was decent. The thing I didn't like about it was that there was no "memory". When the wall switch was off the fan essentially "reset". If the light and fan were on when you flipped the switch off, they'd wouldn't come back on with the flip of the switch. That was a deal breaker for me. I needed a switch and remote, and refused to install an app for one device.

I highly recommended avoiding this... you can not replace the LED, go with one with standard bulbs from home depot. Might be $10-15 more but much better quality
