I've ported out from Boost 3 times in the last 2 years and had no issues. As of 3 months ago they transfer you to the "loyalty department" which gives you your account number and "number transfer pin" that's only valid for 4 days (not the same as your regular account pin). They also asked for my phone's last 6 IMEI and verification code they text. Maybe that's annoying/impossible for some but I actually prefer that kind of authentication/security. They'll try to offer you deals but I'm blunt (but polite) with them that if they can match/beat another carrier's offer, I'll stay, which I did. This process has been the same for 2-4 years now.

Boost Mobile's $10 monthly unlimited plan stands out as a low upfront way to get 30GB of full speed data on AT and T based service, with throttling to 512 Kbps after that. The deal also leaves room to walk away after a month if a better offer appears, and a Capital One promo code reportedly keeps it at $10 for five months. The main cautions are weak coverage in some areas, no hotspot, and a port out process that can take extra calls and verification. It is a practical short term option if the network works where you live.
Common Questions (5)
Porting out can be quick or require extra steps: some transfers are completed in about 10-12 minutes, while others take multiple calls and reps from both carriers. Boost may route you to a loyalty department that gives your account number and a number transfer PIN valid for 4 days, and may also ask for the last 6 digits of the phone's IMEI plus a text verification code.
This Boost service is on AT&T's network and includes up to 30GB of full-speed data. After that, data is throttled to 512 Kbps max, so it works best if you stay under the cap or only need light data after it is reached.
Hotspot is not included on this plan. A workaround like PDANet can bypass the carrier hotspot restriction, but it requires setup on both the phone and the connected device.
The activation window appears to be about 30 days, though the exact deadline is not clearly confirmed. It is safest not to wait beyond a month so you do not miss the promo.
Yes. A Capital One promo code reportedly drops the plan to $10 per month for 5 months.

It's available since Boost Mobile typically considers former customers who have been disconnected or inactive for a specific window (usually 90 to 180 days, or a full year) to be new customers when signing up for a new line or porting a number back. Is $25/month after promotion period is typical these days?
