When my phone is more than 50% faster for single core and 80% faster for multi core... I would be very skeptical of this deal. Compare it to the S25 by Samsung.

Sometimes it's apples and oranges. Can your phone have upgradable ram? Does it have quicksync? Can it handle 24/7 multiple processes running?

I have multiple spare phones for different reasons, but I most likely wouldn't set them up for certain tasks.

upgradeable RAM??? You mean spend like $250 on DDR4 RAM 3200 SODIMM? Please tell me your total cost and then lets see systems that meet your budget.
And you mention Quick Sync Video... if you get a decent system for a few hundred more you don't need to have Quick Sync Video cause the CPU will be more then powerful enough to decode anything. I would not say Quick Sync Video is the answer. And can it handle 24/7 mutiple processes running... as mentioned it is 50% faster single core and 80% faster multi core... so whatever this laptop can handle, the phone should handle better (S25).

Unless you are actually using this as a plex server "only"... then I would agree with you.

Six-year-old, discontinued CPU. Scratch and dent with signs of heavy use. Latitude brand. No real warranty to speak of (90 day Woot warranty is basically there to make sure it's not a DoA system).

These were very likely corporate machines in their previous life.

That doesn't make it a bad deal if you have a specific use for the hardware, but it's not a good deal just because it's got a sale price attached. This is one of those "does it work for you" things.

If you can return this.. you can always test the hard drive and see the harddrive health.. if lower then 90%, you may want to return.

It's not everyone's use case, but I have piles of old ram and SSD sticks laying around for laptops I've Frankensteined that kicked the bucket for one reason or another; being able to find a barebones laptop for cheap and being able to throw some of those in makes a great budget Plex server (or other media/local cloud storage)

That's a lot more difficult (or unlikely) to do with cell phones.
