Direct thermal labels fade with handling or temperature rather quickly, and usually the text colors are limited, no green on black and things like that.

TZe labels are thermal transfer and usually laminated, and there are tons of specialty things like iron on labels.

Yeah, if you only need the basic functions then 9 bucks is hard to complain about. Got a couple of extra rolls of labels for few bucks a piece on AE.
Link to the AE labels pls.

Is there a product you can recommend that is close to, if not as cheap as this one?

Please explain.
Home Assistant is an open source smart home automation platform. It lets you control all your smart home devices (from many different brands) in one place, and you host it yourself in your own home; your data is private. You can run it on practically any computer, such as a raspberry pi, a desktop, or a laptop.

Home Assistant can control Niimbot printers directly over Bluetooth, so you can skip using the official app that tries to upsell you icons and designs, and print anything you want for free.

I have two of these (different maker probably but they're all the same). I keep on at home one in the car. Have used it for sooo many things from organizing pantry and storage to labeling garage sale quick-grab baskets. Helps with so many things. I make my own address labels sometimes if I want the mailed letter or card to have an extra personalized touch.

Can't say enough good things about this little gadget. Anytime a special pops up where its $10+- I always purchase another because it makes such an awesome birthday gift for any teen, parent or older person who isn't intimidated by using apps. I can't remember the name of the current app I use on my main phone with this but its fairly easy to use and has very transparent and easy to figure out layout that takes only a few minutes out of the box first time to get you setup and getting creative.

P.S. This touches a bit on what I mentioned above, but if you are a person like me who hates holiday shopping (mostly because of the crazy drivers, long lines, traffic and amount of patience needed to deal with idiots 24/7),than I offer you my fool-proof life hack of always being on the lookout for easy, WALLET FRIENDLY gifts thoughout the year you can grab when you see a hot deal and add it to that year's holiday shopping "requirement". My personal rule is anything under $2 (that looks/comes off as a $10+ item) that is tasteful, good quality and can be an add-on to a bigger gift is a good buy...and anything at the $5- $10 point (that one would assume is a $40+$50 + gift when opening), is versatile and useful and can be used to make life cleaner, more pleasant and overall easier is a good buy. *The quota to make someone's life more pleasant/organized/easier is something Ive realized is a good goal to always keep in mind because in today's society it is Really hard to get swept away by warm cozey comfort of consumption and some of us show love through gifts (5 love languages) and can often overwhelm those we care about by giving material things too often and not taking until consideration that imposing clutter on others to make ourselves feel good about ourselves is sometimes a stressful and uncomfortable situation for the other person. Sorry this was long...I just jumped off on a tangent because I got excited about this little dude.

P.S. to make my constant gift-giving pressure and guilt-free I always say something like "When I seen this I thought of you (hand then bag/item/wrapped box etc...) but please don't feel the need to have to use and keep it if you don't have the need to. If you want to donate or gift it to someone that would be wonderful too.

It's a Bluetooth device this is true, yes, but are you saying that you can create an image or label in any app and SEND it to this thing under Bluetooth..or are you referring to being able to give a smart home command like "reprint last label"? Cuz although it doesn't seem IMPOSSIBLE to create custom labels through a smart home IFTTT protocol, it does seem quite counterproductive timewise

$9 is basically free. Fair warning the refill labels are where they get you, the proprietary rolls aren't cheap. Still a great little gadget for pantry/cable labeling.

Had one for about a year it's great once you get the quirky app figured out. OEM Labels are where they make their money back along with the app trying to upsell fonts. The downside from this compared to brother or other tape cartridges is the length of the label, you need to buy the length you need whereas the cartridge will go as long as you want without having to swap.
