More flexible cloud storage: Your cloud storage allowance will change from 1 TB per person to 2 TB of shared storage so everyone on the plan can use the free space while keeping their own accounts and files private. This change will apply after your first renewal after 2nd May, 2027. Learn more about these upcoming changes.

Why? According to the first post this takes effect on the first renewal after May 2 2027. So, they will have provided the 6 TB throughout the entire period that you paid for. It looks like they are doing it right. This is much better than when Amazon added ads to Prime Video and applied it immediately to everyone that had paid for the year. (Sadly, I don't think there was a class action over that.)

I'm also interested in the Nextcloud + Cloudflare solution. I could set up Nextcloud, but don't know where to do it that would be economical.

Yeah, I've been wanting to get off 365 for a while now, been experimenting with Nextcloud, Immich, and Tailscale. Working pretty well so far. Guess I have another 7 months to completely figure it out.

Makes me wonder a question: If "This change will apply after your first renewal after 2nd May, 2027."... and they let you stack up to five years of codes on your account, let's say I were to find a "good deal" and stack five years right before May 2027, would this change then NOT affect my account until it was time to "renew" again in May 2032 - in theory?

So glad I run LTSC 2024 on Mac and PC and use iCloud for my file storage.

What a colossal downgrade. I only use m365 because of the OneDrive storage. If that's getting nerfed it's a good reason for me to drop this extra cost and consider consolidating on Google, where i'm already also paying.

I've read multiple sources say that this is the understanding. I'm contemplating doing the same thing.

This, I read that right away. Can we confirm this will work?

It's pretty clear to me that MS has more-or-less groomed everyone to use their individual 1TB OneDrives as much as possible, doing backups and photo storage and upgrading all the apps to make OneDrive the default place your files live. Now, years later, they pull the carpet out from under you and say that not only are you not getting a lower price, but they're taking away 66% of your Family storage.

I certainly see either MS back-tracking on this or a giant lawsuit.

The problem is that the 2TB is already in effect today, so it could be that codes you use to add to a current subscription could legally be considered the updated terms, meaning when they go into effect, you only get the 2TB.

I have the same question about an existing subscription, mine runs already till May 2028. So does that mean I'm grandfathered in all the way till then because I don't have any more 'renewals' till May 2028? Or does it cut over on May 2, 2027?

It sounds like if I applied another code to renew for another year, I could potentially trigger the 'downgrade' from 6TB individually to 2TB shared BEFORE May 2027.

Well, sort of I guess.

I have 2TB iCloud plan but it gives me free 7 day secure video footage for my 10 cameras and Hidemyemail and AI interpretation for one of my cameras. Plus it integrates perfectly with my Apple devices.

With Office 2024 LTSC, I only paid once and can block all connections to the app and Microsoft. The only time I let it through is once a month on Tuesday (was actually yesterday 10/13!) to update to the latest version, then it's back to firewall on.
