If a TV series gets a 4k version would the HD upgrade like the movies do?

If you have HD it has worked that way yes. If you have SD no. But to my knowledge it is publisher dependent

I would be down for some purchases, if it wasn't for Apple's DRM. The fact that you can only run it on Apple products, with Apple software, is super lame. Can't download and play on a Windows device with a program like VLC. Unfortunate.

They recently upgraded Mad Men to 4k for all existing buyers.I cannot think of any show that got a resolution update but existing buyers did not get upgraded automatically... but as @funtimeben says, it's usually publisher dependent. For hbo shows I think 4k & hdr upgrades are exclusive to their own streaming service & I personally don't see them offering those on other services due to differentiator.

Tempted to jump on this but might wait for Black Friday and see if they include one in their daily deal. Got Mad Men and Entourage for like $10 or $15 each last year, hoping for something similar this year with The Sopranos or The Wire.

Now they've hit this price, hoping it is a common deal price.

It's been a while since I booted up itunes on Windows 11 but I watched some films that way last year. iTunes is 20+ years outdated but it works on Windows... barely.

True Detective season 1 is some of the best tv you'll watch. Great acting. Super intense. All the other seasons weren't anywhere close to it's greatness.

Agree that the million platform stuff does get annoying. Has pushed me to start getting more physical media (which often includes digital, at least for movies). Quality is much better (with uncompressed sound especially); streaming is convenient but also sucks in other ways

No he doesn't. His statement is 100% accurate. He said apple product or apple software.

Unlike all the other providers you can't stream your content via a web browser in the windows world. And if you have an android phone, tablet (I.e. a device that isn't something like a Roku, Firestick, etc) you cannot watch via the Apple TV app either. On a Windows computer you must install Apple SOFTWARE to run it. Apple software is bloat ware and any competent IT department isn't going to let you install it on a work computer.

There are more Windows and Android devices than any other computer type in the world by an extremely large margin. Every other provider supports these devices. Apple is in fact the worst other than streaming quality.

Think Sopranos is unlikely to go on sale this year, because there's a 4K physical set coming out in December. Even Gruv raised the price of their blu ray set. Could very well be wrong though
