SiteStripe warns this is a "Frequently returned item". Maybe a little telling.

Not sure I'd want to take the extra wear on my laptop hinge; why not just use a second monitor with a normal stand? Seems a bit odd.

Convenience. It's just one thing to shove in your bag and doesn't require extra desk space floor the foot print. Monitor aligns with your screen. For lap use or something like on a plane (don't use this with a neighbor) this can be game changer. That said I agree it's wear on your hinge and will make your laptop notably heavier

The dual screen ones with there own stand are nice if you have 2x usbc dp or 1x and an hdmi but the cost 2x this (just make sure it says "No Driver Needed" as some of the super cheap ones need a driver installed before they will work)
