Wi-Fi for smarthome is a non-starter, no matter how much the corporations shill Matter. If you're gullible, welcome to the world of Wi-Fi routers contending with dozens or hundreds of separate devices hogging your network.

Bro is referring to Matter *over WiFi*, which yeah, I'd rather not have more devices congesting my network. That's what these bulbs are. These devices don't need their own hub (a perk of matter over WiFi) so when you turn them on for the first time, you should get a pop up on whatever device is controlling you smart home devices

I have a few Matter *over Thread* devices and control them with a separate hub... So only the hub is on my network but the thread devices can still be controlled with Google home.

But you only need a single Thread gateway for it all to work. And many many people have one already (Apple TVs/HomePods/etc - and i assume similar devices from Google). Matter over Thread is rock solid IME.

I've been using these for about 2-3 months now and they have been excellent. I'm glad Edison smart bulbs that don't LOOK like smart bulbs have become so affordable. After moving into our new house, I tried this brand out with some standard lamp bulbs first and immediately started grabbing others from different deals as they popped up. I'm getting rid of all of the GE Cync bulbs. These Linkind offer way more variety, work quickly, and have a far more reliable scheduling experience with Google Home integration. Definitely happy with this purchase.

Hardwire anything that is important. Let the unimportant items deal with Wi-fI.

So these are WiFi Matter, not Thread. Fine for a lamp or two, but I wouldn't fill the house with them

Not really, if you have a decent AP you should not have issues, More over these operate in an already overcrowded 2.4ghz band and they transmit very low data. You just have to tune your wifi and you will be good. I have around 70 wifi devices and 40 zigbee\Zwave devices, 10-15 BT and BLE All work happily in my house without any issues.

I have used these with TP-Linka and Alta Labs AP's and neither broke a sweat.

Bad take. The issue isn't "it can work." The issue is procuring the best available tech.

Good Lord, man. Are you just going to find fault with every point made that is counter to your opinion? I don't have the top of the line stuff and haven't even come remotely close to customizing my Wi-Fi for the new home we moved in to and I don't have any problems with all of the dozens and dozens of things running on my network either. These aren't for you? That's more than fine. Nobody is forcing you into that situation. Just don't work so hard to convince everyone else that their situation isn't good because you went a different route.

There are tons of products and ways to set this stuff up to negate your concerns.

It's really simple, there can be two sets of advice and one can be better. Yours is worse, when these things are so cheap to begin with, so picking the best available technology is everything.

In the spirit of potentially learning something new or validating my own take on this, can you describe further what staples of these methodologies are better or worse? If I'm misunderstanding the entire premise, maybe I'll change my tune. As it stands, I see both sides of the debate as valid and highly subjective. Maybe one of us is just lacking context?
This is a legitimate response. I'm not going to dig in on any idea before fully assessing all of the info so if I'm off on this, I appreciate insight. The worst that can happen is I change my mind or solidify my original opinion
