The JBL 308P MkII are powered near field studio monitors that stand out for clean, neutral sound and strong value at this price. They are praised for flat, low fatigue playback, good bass for an 8 inch monitor, and enough output to fill a room or work well on a desk, with some comparing them favorably to Klipsch, KRK, and even pricier options. The main tradeoffs are setup and convenience, since they need their own power, lack HDMI and digital inputs, and can be awkward with TVs or cheap AVRs. They also have no grills, so the tweeters and woofers need a little care.

I have these and KRK classics, one set in each studio. Similar quality, but I like the JBLs a little better, the KRKs distort a little too easy.

JBLs look great in white as well.

Would this be appropriate for use as a stage monitor?
No, it would not

So this would be a good speaker for a desktop pc that needs one for general audio use?

Yes, that was their original design goal. Nonetheless, they can be used for HT whether in 2.0 or as part of a surround setup (though this is more troublesome with all the individual power cords needed as well as a receiver with full pre-outs). JBL does make their own soundbar/pseudo-sub combos, lol.

It would be damn near impossible to find large passive bookshelves with anything approaching these JBLs' sound quality for $150 a pop.
A cheap Arc HDMI to RCA converter would be ideal for using these in a 2.0 setup, without needing an AVR (unless planning a 3.0/3.1, or surround (& or Atmos system)), & the volume would be controlled via the TV remote. Alternatively, Fosi, Wiim (& others) offer small form factor preamplifiers with HDMI inputs that convert to analog RCA - while offering other useful functions, such as sub-out, HP filters, & even EQ, & room correction (Wiim)).

you need a dac with balanced outputs or get some balanced to rca adaptor for them to work with these speakers. I use a topping dx5 because it has a remote
