would like non-negative display OG one, but that's always out of stock for some strange reason.
agreed. as someone who thought the 'negative' display was cool and/or would save battery life: the real issue is view angles. It is really hard to check under certain conditions, angles, and/or lighting. I bought another watch that had regular display (not negative) and it performs slightly better in all conditions without the need for the light.
*note: dark display saves battery life on cell phones, unsure if this is true for Casio watches lol

For these simple LCD displays on watches - it will not save any battery. This effect is done by turning the angle of the polarizer film by 90 degrees, this is a semi common mod done on watches with these types of displays. You would take a razor blade to peel off the polarizer film and replace it with a new piece of polarizer film at a new angle and it would invert the display.
With cellphones and other devices with full color lit displays - the battery saving on darker screen is only true for OLED displays, as each pixel is composed of 3-4 different LEDs (RGB and sometimes W). Each LED emits its own light rather than just generating a semi transparent color, so a backlight is unnecessary. With an OLED, each pixel is able to turn off for all black pixels, and use less power for darker colors. With LCD displays, the technology involves sandwiching a semi-transparent layer that handles the colors/image with a backlight to see the image regardless of environmental lighting conditions. They require a backlight with separate LED array assembly, so even with darker colors the backlight will still be on.

The newer MIP negative displays Casio is using on some G-Shock models is actually pretty good, though.
