yes, not worth it
Hori's Piranha Plant Camera for the Switch 2 has 480p resolution, much lower than the official camera's 1080p.

Is this the one that records at 480p? Should be 10 bucks the most.

They're trying to maintain the nostalgic blocky look of the original Super Mario Bros.

Note: This is a joke. Its video quality will be better than VHS and worse than DVD.

Mario Kart and, Mario Party other games that take advantage of the live cam while you're playing the game

I think y'all are missing the point. This cam is really meant to be used in handheld mode. Yes, you could use it in dock mode with the stand, but if you want one that sits by the TV with a higher resolution, you buy the official one.

For handheld mode, you buy this one. Yes, the quality is a little lower, colors are a bit more washed out, but in handheld mode, it's fine.

DVD is 480p... Though widescreen ratio.

Really wish it was better quality. It's so damn cool looking and I love how you can take it off the base.

Yup, but a 640x480 webcam sensor will run at a lower bitrate than a DVD, and perform real-time encoding instead of having the luxury of optimizing the encoding beforehand, and use a MUCH smaller and MUCH noisier sensor than was used when recording the footage that goes onto a DVD.
So, if you're looking at the quality of DVD footage and expecting to get the same from this webcam, you'll be disappointed, despite similar resolutions.
