This LG C6 OLED evo is being discussed as a bright 4K gaming TV with a native 120 hertz panel that can reach 165 hertz with variable refresh rate. The picture quality and gaming performance are the main draws, and the set includes a physical microphone on and off switch. Pricing looks better through the LG Partner Store, where it is listed at $899 and can drop to $809 with the EARLYBF10 code. The main concern is privacy, with repeated claims about microphones, telemetry, and the TV continuing to connect unless it is blocked or unplugged, so many setups lean on an external streaming box and tighter network controls.

People complaining about data getting shared and stolen like they dont walk around with a 6 inch device in their pocket recording their every move is funny to me. Like i get it. It sucks...but if u dont want ur data given or stolen i suggest u go live off the grid lol

I block my TV from the router side until I want to do updates. Unblock, update, re-block.
Can you stream anything if you do this?

Sign the TV into a temporary guest network for initial install. Add updates. Disconnect and never reconnect. Use a streaming box instead of the bad TV UI. It does add extra hassle. For sure. But if it gets you the TV you want for the right price, it's worth it.
I did the same thing. However, the report claims it will store everything, and connect to open Wi-Fi access points to transmit. Lazy ignorant neighbors or people passing by with an open hot-spot are risks.

I don't think so. I might be able to stream from local sources, but I'm not sure what that looks like these days. Plex might still be able to do local only, but by default they want you logging in to the online account setup.

I use an Apple TV for the actual streaming client, so it's the one connected to the network. The panel is just a display in my setup.

I have the LG C2 tv and best buy geek squad refunded me minus the warranty since the tv has burn in it so not sure whether to use my credit to get this tv or wait til the C7 comes out..I see that the burn with the OLED screens are very common so not sure if next yrs model will do something about it to make it less likely

Further problem with this, it stores the information internally. If you ever connect it to the internet it dumps the back data.

As mentioned in the expose, the tv stores the data internally. The second you reconnect it, it dumps the stored data. Disconnect, it begins storing internally again, etc...

That's exactly what I do! I I usually hook it up using my phones network connected to a VPN and then delete the device from my phone once it's set up.

For the record, there is a physical on/off switch for the microphone on the set.
There is more than one mic and they already tested that on gamers Nexus. You cannot disable the other one

You should not be doing that. If you saw the video, you would see that it stores the data and sends it when the connection is reestablished

Its about choice and voting with your money. I know what my phone does... im good with it... my TV doing something to my whole family is another thing. Especially LG's level of dirty. I plan on selling my LG C4 and buying another brand.

You can turn a phone off. This thing listens even when it's off unless you unplug it.

There are great alternatives, both for OLED and otherwise. I returned an 83" C5 for a Bravia 9 85" and absolutely love the decision. The PQ is stunning and zero risk of burn-in, useful since I pause my games for hours.
Is this the new RGB TV with near OLED level contrast but is technically an lcd?
