I don't have this exact brand, but having this type of budget buffer/polisher around is always useful.
New cast iron pans can be buffed to speed up the seasoning process.
Car wheels, dinner tables can be waxed/buffed.
Don't recommend using this on car paint, though.

How easy is it to control the speed on this model, especially for beginners?

If you are referring to the RPM, it is controlled by a dial near the lower handle; very easy.
What a beginner should really be looking for is a dual action (DA) polisher.
A DA polisher/buffer is
  1. A relatively modern technology
  2. Oscillates and spins at the same time (dual-action)
  3. Because of 2, it is more expensive
I still highly recommend having a polisher around the house.
If you are interested, please watch like 2 random Youtube videos and spend 5 minutes with ChatGPT or Gemini.
It will save you money and headache later.

There are numerous threads on these polishers that SD staff keep posting. They should be including links to a spray gun and compressor too for when people burn through their paint.

25ish years ago I learned on one of these, a Wen, because DA polishers were crazy expensive. I burned through paint multiple times. I also worked at a car dealership with a big reconditioning department, like 6-8 people polishing cars at any given time. It was normal for the new guy to burn paint, mirrors and bumper edges were the prime targets.

A Bauer DA from Harbor Freight is about $30 more than this, pocket change considering pads and polish are going to cost you at least $100 more than the polisher.
