Has there been any other companies coming out with lenses or is Canon still holding aftermarket at bay? I know of two that were talking about it last year but I haven't really kept up

you can buy vistilen EFR lenses, through chinese sellers on chinese platforms. or their website https://www.vistilenofficial.com/collections/efr. Options are still few though, but some lenses are very good if you refer to the review of the meike lenses for other mounts.

bought it for refurbished from canon directly almost 3 years ago for about 800 bucks, weird to see it at this price

There ARE third-party lenses for Canon cameras, but they are for the APS-C format. For instance, Sigma has a 18-50mm f/2.8 APS-C lens for Canon's RF mount, as well as a newly announced 50-120mm f/2.8 APS-C lens for the RF mount. It is my understanding that Canon is restricting third-party manufacturers from producing lenses for Canon's full frame cameras.
