Don't buy this unless you wanted to get stuck in your project and notch it

I'd watch for a deal for DeWalt or Bosch. Not a fan of Ryobi for this particular tool. The base plate is a bit too narrow (you can buy aftermarket or make your own) and the adjustments are fiddly.

I have this router and it's been just fine for a beginner. Have had no issues with nicks or notches.

Agree. On mine, the height adjustment has a habit of drifting while cutting. Doesn't snag or get stuck, just can't rely on it to maintain it's depth/height on longer cuts.

The tool is useful if it always worked right, but this particular model sometimes doesn't stay locked at the height you set it at, so it sometimes starts cutting deeper because the adjustment lever doesn't lock it down super securely and it occasionally starts to slide down farther as you're using it. The brushless version of this doesn't do that because they fixed that issue by making the locking lever stronger or engage into micro grooves so it won't drift, but this brushed one may slide down from either its own vibration or from your hand pushing down on it to hold it firmly against the work as you're using it.
