A lot of this stuff sold a la carte (as an upgrade) gets exorbitantly expensive -- that module alone sells for $1800, the snare, $350, that new ride cymbal, $450 -- so if you're buying Roland, it's best to figure it all out before you buy the kit.
Same line with same brain/sounds/sound engine.. but this is about as good of a deal since you're definitely getting more than $700 value against it, depending on your priorities. (Real hi-hat, better snare, more cymbals, more expansion)
Oh well, I'll still enjoy my new kit.
It's essentially a TD-17-level kit paired with the V51 sound module from the TD-516.
One of the biggest selling points of the V51 is its three digital trigger inputs, designed for Roland's digital hi-hat, snare, and ride cymbal. Those are some of the most significant upgrades on the TD-516.
This kit doesn't include a single digital pad. Everything is analog.
You're basically paying for a high-end module without getting the hardware that makes it shine.

For around $2,000, you can find a TD-27 in excellent condition, with all three of Roland's digital pads: the digital snare, hi-hat, and ride. That's a much better setup for the money.
For around $1,000, you can pick up a used TD-17, which is already more than enough for most beginners and even intermediate players.
