That's a sound deal, thanks. I snagged some sets even though I usually string up with Elixirs. But good name brand strings such as these that I've used many times in the past are a good deal at 4 bux a set.
And there's an old saying that if you wanna play real Bluegrass you have to use medium strings and a thick pick.

The solution is to get the 3 sets in this deal and by the time you've used all 3 sets (if you play regularly) you'll have great callouses and you'll enjoy the unleashed volume and tone so much that you'd never want to go back to the lightweight stuff.

I recently got an import acoustic for my wife, and it showed up with 13s on it. I've played for about 25 years, and that was the first time I'd ever played any. It legitimately felt like a tow cable under my hand. Horrible experience.

Not at my age (71). Trying to relearn after quitting nearly 50 years ago. Was struggling even with 12s and replaced with 11s. Huge difference in playability for the. Still getting the required calluses in only 6 weeks or so. If I "had" to relearn on 13s, I would probably have given up again within 2 weeks. Focusing on clean fretting and rhythm for now and although a bit frustrating, I'm enjoying it. Can even handle my F shape barres already which I never really got when younger. I'll never be good enough to notice the slight tone difference in heavier strings so I figure why hurt myself and turn it into an even more difficult process.

13s were common when I quit in my early 20s and I played them OK (for my limited ability). Not now at my age. 11s are enough work for me. Coming back slowly but already becoming fun again after only about 6 weeks

Thumbup Right there is the absolute key IMHO - having fun and enjoying it. You nailed it.

A long time ago I went straight from electric (Telecaster) where you barely have to touch the strings to make noise with an amp to acoustic with 13-56 PB playing Bluegrass and having to compete with banjos, fiddles, mandos etc. with no amp, and I dearly love it. I almost never play the Tele anymore since the difference in tension makes it harder for me to get the sound and speed I'm used to on the acoustic, but I enjoy and have fun doing some country twangin' once and a while.

Glad you're having fun and enjoying it. Life is too short.
