I have had two solar power watches, one citizen and one seiko. They lasted a good ten years, but now the solar mechanism won't hold a charge on either watch and it would be more expensive to repair than the value of the watches. I'm not inclined to buy any more solar-powered watches.

I've dead Sieko solar watch. I still wears it coz it looks good. No one knows if it doesn't work. Rearly if ask me time, I look at my phone and tell them. 😂

I'm in the opposite camp - quartz watches end up sitting in my closet because I don't want to put the time in to change the battery, so I'm okay with a ten year life span for a watch that keeps running as long as I keep it in some light. I used to buy a lot of quartz watches (and a couple of automatics) but end up wearing a solar most days because it's the one most likely to be running.

Yep, as someone who has spent quite a bit on watches, they really are just jewelry. They become just status symbols for the few that actually recognize cost once you get above the $2000 mark.
