Even the 'better' ones like Strapino that did well in PFs review have several critical reviews of early failures and the retracting mechanism eventually failing so even the 'pay more for quality' logic doesn't apply with these. They are an awesome idea but make sure you have a set of the old school ones on hand at all times if and when these fail.
Community Reviews
These retractable ratchet straps stand out for convenience, with the excess webbing winding into the reel so there is no loose end to manage. That makes them faster and easier for pickup beds, small trailers, and light duty hauling, and the 4 pack price looks competitive versus buying standard straps. The main tradeoff is durability and load confidence, since the retractable mechanism adds parts that can fail and the 600 pound working load is lower than many traditional straps. A handy option if convenience matters more than maximum strength.
Common Questions (5)
At $43.99, the 4-pack is viewed as a solid deal and roughly comparable to the cost of four standard straps from warehouse clubs, though some similar Rhino kits have sold for less during periodic sales. The value mainly comes from the convenience of the retractable design.
Yes. The retracting reel removes the loose end, so the strap wraps itself up like a tape measure and then ratchets normally, which makes securing loads faster and cleaner. They are especially convenient for pickup beds, small furniture, and light-duty trailer use.
RhinoUSA is favored for its lifetime warranty and established brand, and similar Rhino kits have been found on sale for less. Towmax can still be a good buy, but Rhino is the safer pick if warranty support matters more than the lowest upfront price.
They can be very convenient for frequent use, but the retracting mechanism adds parts that can fail over time, so they should be treated as wear items. Keeping a backup set of old-school straps on hand is practical if you rely on them often.
The set is rated at 600 lb safe working load per strap, or 2,400 lb total for the 4-pack. That is lower than some standard tie-down straps, so they are better suited to lighter-duty securing than heavy loads near failure limits.
