Even the 'better' ones like Strapino that did well in PFs review have several critical reviews of early failures and the retracting mechanism eventually failing so even the 'pay more for quality' logic doesn't apply with these. They are an awesome idea but make sure you have a set of the old school ones on hand at all times if and when these fail.
Community Reviews
These retractable ratchet straps stand out for convenience, with the excess webbing winding into the reel so there is no loose end to manage. That makes them faster and easier for pickup beds, small trailers, and light duty hauling, and the 4 pack price looks competitive versus buying standard straps. The main tradeoff is durability and load confidence, since the retractable mechanism adds parts that can fail and the 600 pound working load is lower than many traditional straps. A handy option if convenience matters more than maximum strength.
The retracting reel design can make pickup-bed tie downs faster and easier to manage.
The retractable mechanism can eliminate a loose strap end by wrapping excess into the reel automatically.
A 6ft retractable set can be much better than manual ratchet straps for frequent use.
Light-duty use for securing furniture and similar loads can feel convenient without needing to test to failure.
Retractable ratchet straps can add more components that may fail compared with non-retractable designs.
The retracting mechanism can be risky under severe load or near failure tolerances.
These straps can be treated as wear items that eventually fail, including retracting-mechanism failures seen in other brands' reviews.
Some users may avoid using retractable straps for car securement and may consider it potentially illegal under FMCSA securement rules.
